Clerks provide general clericalsupport to various offices. Clerks perform a critical role in theprocessing, distributing, and managing incoming and outgoingcorrespondence. The Mail and File Clerk processes both incoming andoutgoing mail. In fact, Mail and File Clerks process more than amillion pieces of correspondence, including tax returns, each year.The File Clerk while experiencing similar volumes is responsible forprocessing and filing documents.**As a Deposit Clerk you will:**
              • Work in a number of offices throughout the IRS providingclerical support
              • Receive, open, sort, and distribute both incoming and outgoingmail; route mail to various points within and outside theorganization. Ensure all mail contains sufficient informationfor proper delivery. Maintain logs for mail accountabilitypurposes.
              • Screen documents, forms, and letters addressed or routed tovarious offices; research correspondence not addressed tospecific functional areas. Screen material initially identifiedas "unable to route" to determine information requested andbased on thorough knowledge of organization and functions ofvarious offices, determine proper office which the materialshould be sent. Identify forms or documents requiring specialpriority handling and treat them accordingly.
              • Receive and process incoming and outgoing registered andcertified mail, and express mail shipments. Maintain appropriaterecords and/or logs for tracking and reconciliation purposes.
